It’s the worst possible nightmare for Alaska’s wilderness, and I need your help to stop it.

A foreign-owned mining company called Anglo American is planning to dig one of the world’s largest open-pit mines — the Pebble Mine — in the heart of Alaska’s irreplaceable Bristol Bay watershed.

You couldn’t pick a worse place to dig this dirty 2,000-foot-deep, two-mile-long gold and copper mega-mine.

That’s why we need you to sign our Petition of Protest now so that we can send your signature along with hundreds of thousands of others to Anglo American’s Annual Shareholders Meeting, which ironically enough is being held on April 22: Earth Day!
-Frances Beinecke
President of Natural Resources Defense Council

Z-Boat Lodge, British Columbia

Hello Fishing Friends,

The first week of our 2010 season was great fun.  We had mild weather and fresh steelhead for a group of anglers that the Deschutes Anglers and Fly Water Travel organized for us.  The anglers had a range of steelhead experience from first timers to seasoned steelhead guides. When Mike landed his first steelhead, he was stunned at the size and fight.  He had never seen a steelhead and when he released his first fish, he announced he now knows what the big deal over steelhead is all about; they are big, beautiful, hard fighting fish!  Congratulations, Mike!

The guys at the Deschutes Angler use a dry line a lot so we decided to fish a dry line with a cone for our BC winter steelhead.  We were all very excited to hook fish most days with this set up; several fish showed a wake and boil as they took the fly!  Way too cool!  Chris caught his fresh hot buck with a 7 wt. Spey rod and a dry line.  The steelhead streaked all over the pool and really went ballistic!  Well done, Chris!

Charles Gehr is a steelhead guide and passionate angler who loves the Skeena watershed for it’s big, wild steelhead and spectacular scenery.  When he hooked his fish, it swam to his feet and we thought it might be a trout, then all hell broke loose!  The steelhead went well into his backing three times in the 20-minute battle.  Nice fish, Charles!

It looks like this will be a great spring to fish.  The weather is mild, the rivers have a great flow and we are catching beautiful fresh steelhead with some fresh hot Chinook coming soon!  We still have a few spring dates available, so please give us a call and we will plan a great BC fishing adventure for you!

Tight lines,
Brad, Kim & Scott

At 56 I’m coming to terms with the indisputable and harsh reality that there is no U-haul behind the hearse.  It is time to accelerate and intensify the life  experience before the meteorite strikes and while our vitality permits such expeditions.”
