The trout fishing season is wrapping up in most areas of the country. Many of us have switched over to steelhead fishing or making plans to travel to warmer climates and exotic species of fish.

This time of year we, at Fly Water Travel, can often be found fishing our favorite tailwater for brutish rainbow trout. For those of you interested in chasing some of the largest and hardest-fighting trout of the season, we suggest fishing the Upper Klamath Canyon. The Upper Klamath is your best bet for relative solitude and very strong rainbow trout. Bill Morrish fished the Upper Klamath Canyon recently and found this beauty…

Congratulations Bill!

Fly Water Kudos

From our good friend Chuck Page:

“Three years ago my East Coast fishing buddies decided they needed to go catch the steelhead of a lifetime. They were going to use a decent company that they had used for saltwater trips. They asked me to do some research out West and decide if this was the best option. Several fly shops I trust recommended I contact Ken and Fly Water Travel. Instead of selling me on one of several options, Ken instead proceeded to ask me a number of questions about  my group – if we used spey rods, had we fished for steelhead before, if there were any physical issues, the type of accommodations and amenities we liked, etc – before he made any recommendations. As it turns out, Ken knows about virtually every legitimate steelhead lodge in BC and – through his relationships – has the ability to find availability if it exists. We ended up choosing the Sustut and his recommendation was spot on for what we were looking for. We had a great trip and have gone back to BC each year since, and will go back next year.

Fly Water Travel books and does a great job organizing all types of fishing trips. But I can say this unequivocally, if you are looking to book a steelhead adventure, Ken and his cohorts are the best option around. I wouldn’t consider anyone else. In great part because they are steelheaders themselves, they are your best option to having a successful steelhead experience. There are a lot of variables in play when you target steelhead. Ken can’t guarantee that the fish will be there, or that the weather will cooperate, but his advice and assistance  will give you your best shot. They are first rate. I will use them for all my fishing travel.”

Thanks Chuck!

It is currently prime time steelhead fishing here in southern Oregon. The recent rains have “shuffled the deck” so to speak but we have good numbers of fish around and our local guides are catching them! The Rogue River has been producing steelhead daily and should continue to fish well for the next few weeks. Our friend Jim Ulm was guiding Barry Crawford over the weekend and landed this 27 ” fish…

Well done guys!
