Fly Fishing and Yoga Weekend
Running Y Resort, Oregon Itinerary
With Host, Rachel Andras, and friends

The Fishing:   Southern Oregon has much to offer in ways of fishing and scenery. During your trip anglers will fish both the Klamath and Williamson Rivers. The Klamath Canyon is an extremely rugged section of river located in Oregon. The water is typically off color and very fast. This section of river can only be floated by Roe Outfitters and due to its rough and tumble nature, it best suited to adventuresome anglers. The fish here tend to be very stout and average 14-18 inches, with hearty fish in the 19-23 inch class being fairly common. The river fishes best in April and May and in October and November. When the system is on, it can be some of the best fishing in the Pacific Northwest for rainbow trout.

The Williamson River has the distinction of being one of the West’s most prolific trophy rainbow trout fisheries. The majority of the fish in the system are migratory and move up into the river to stage for spawning as Klamath Lake warms. The lake itself only averages seven feet deep and is outrageously rich in feed leading to some of the fastest growth rates for trout in the nation. Remarkably, it is not uncommon for a two year old fish from the lake to exceed 20 inches. The majority of the fish in the river are rainbows but there are two distinct strains. The first is a native “redband” which has evolved to withstand warm water temperatures, and the other is a landlocked Klamath River steelhead. Brown trout are also present in small numbers but can reach incredible sizes. Typically, the fish on the Williamson run large with three to six pound fish caught most days, as well as some fish upwards of twelve pounds being landed each season. Techniques vary from spring creek style dry fly fishing and nymphing, to swinging small streamers and nymphs on slow sinking and intermediate lines.
