Tiamo Resort has reopened.  With new owners and a upgraded facility, including a new pool and A/C, they are getting great reports.

• One angler caught over 30 fish in a day on an unnamed, and probably never fished flat on the fabled West side.
• Over 20 guests new to bonefishing have caught their first bonefish, and most of them have caught the bug and are returning!
• The average daily catch for a reasonably competent angler appears to be between 8 and 12 and up to 7lbs, but we have landed many over 10lbs and lost a few more!
• Blue water fishing has seen several Wahoo caught up to 80lbs, tuna, grouper, mahi mahi, barrucuda and kingfish.

Our fun fishing trips arranged every other day into the deep water of the Tongue of the Ocean, just under 3 miles from the resort, has created much amusement and hilarity with serious arguments about the amount of skill needed to flick the switch that operates the electric reels. Skill or no skill the resulting snapper have been very good to eat and our award winning chef is always happy to prepare it any way you chose.

The expected arrival of large numbers of Mahi Mahi and Tuna nearby in the next few weeks will be challenging particularly when caught on a fly rod but unlike their bonefish cousins once landed they provide delicious cuisine to eat under the stars on the middle dining deck.

The lower Williamson River opened to fishing this last weekend. Despite unseasonably chilly and wet weather the fishing was very good.

Darrin Roe of Roe Outfitters hooked this hefty fish on Morrish’s Anato-May.  When we got the email from Darrin they had landed 10 fish over 20 inches by 1:30 in the afternoon!

Spaces are filling on this very unique fishery. If you’d like to go over to the Williamson River and do some hawg farming, give us a call at 800-552-2729.

Well done Darrin!

We’ve just received this note from our friend Kent Davenport:

I fished with Tom Evans for 3 weeks and on May 10 we were about 100 feet apart on a sandy flat at Homosassa when we saw a large fish and two smaller fish approach. I cast to the big fish and it followed the fly to the boat and then turned away. Tom was talking on the phone and his guide Al said “Here they come 80 feet” Tom put his phone away as Al was going nuts. He picked up the rod and made a 30 foot cast and the big one was on.

An hour and a half later, we have a new Tarpon fly rod record for 12 lb test 196 lbs. 75 inches long and 45 inches in girth.

Give us a call at 800-552-2729 if you’re interested in fishing the Florida Keys!

We just received photos from Drew Pozzi.  Drew is a long time friend and is Newhalen Lodge’s(Alaska) head guide.  He hosted two groups to Christmas Island this spring and the GT below was his best fish of the trip.  As a matter of fact it is the biggest GT we have seen landed on the island.  Guide Moana estimated the fish to be over 100lbs.

Not only will the Jet service return to the island but the price will be reduced from just under $1100.00 to $874. 00.  We have been told that the reduction in rate is due to the fact that the airline is not currently accessing a full surcharge as they have in the past.  Although we do not know for certain, we do not expect this price to last through the season.  If you are looking to get down to the island and want to save some $$ on your flight now is the time.
